Hollow Cutting

Any ideas on what tod with a huge maple tree with a hollow trunk half?

We have a huge maple tree in our front yard that has a trunk that is half empty. We just moved here and say the truth, none of us noticed the tree when you look at the house. We were more concerned about the house and the tree shows no signs of problems. This is the trunk is hollow on a ide s (looks like a problem years ago) and we are worried that this will reverse. my fiance's mother has a wooden cotton old who had the same problem and it was filled with concrete. It's been like that for years and no problems yet. Anyone who has ever heard of this? Is this a good idea? It worked for her, but I afraid that when it comes time to cut it hamper the process. I shutter to think of the saw sparks !!!!! Any ideas or answers what to do? Thank you!

You can pursue the idea of disclosure, but I would leave the tree alone. The tree and the damage survived many storms. Do not use concrete or other type of sealant, it antagonize the damage. Getting someone to watch it would be a good idea. They will probably recommend corrective pruning to stabilize the tree. RScott
