In the original limited edition art, what it means when a work is burned with a facsimile?
I hope than buying a limited edition print by Marc Chagall on e-bay and the seller said that the work contains a facsimile. What does this mean?
When a print is signed with a facsimile, it means that the print was made and signed by a person other than the artist - Most often the artist's estate or a printing company that owns the copyright says the artwork. Generally, this occurred after the artist's death. The "signature" is the name of the artist, written in pencil below the image, by a person beautiful writing. That's it. The Limited Edition term can be a bit of a scam under these conditions ... "Limited" refers only to a particular size, paper type and printing. 20,000 copies of the same image - only an inch taller - can be made subsequently, which would devalue earlier. edition Check a number of printing and publishing - the bottom part of each of these figures, the resale value they have. But this is not a guarantee of the quality of printing. I saw some large paintings made in the terrible events with color representation just terrible ... and yet they are sold to museums and galleries for big $. My final advice is this - You will not buy anything Chagall never touched. This is not an investment ... but if you love the piece and the price is right, get it for yourself and enjoy.
