Nice Pocket Watch
Saturday, June 18th, 2011Pocket watch winding help?
I recently acquired a very nice pocket watch, but have no idea how the wind. I can see all the mechanism inside of it, and I guess it's the tight spiral of metal that holds it in course. When I wind the watch, the spiral is tightening / lose. If it is fully wound, the spiral should be loose or tight? I experience, but I'm terrified of breaking it. Thank you in advance:]
When not wrapped, it must be loose and easy to move. DO NOT WIND. Wind pinch between finger and thumb. Turn right (when viewing the winding mechanism from the top). When you start to feel tension, stop winding! Do not wind more than once a day. Most can go two or three days without rewinding. Let me begin by not-assembly enough. You can not hurt this way. Look at the time of about 3 hours later. If it does not keep good time, you need to go a little more. Do this for several days until you get a good idea of how much to winding. Good Luck #.
